Holland Park I

Holland Park I

Holland Park, London Private Client 440 m² | 4,740 ft² 2024

Wholesale reconstruction of Victorian terraced house with exceptional interior design requirements.

An early decision was taken to replan the whole interior layout - primarily to provide a spacious entrance hall, but also to rationalise circulation throughout the house. A new curved staircase was designed, running between the lower ground floor family room to a spectacular attic with an open fireplace and exposed wooden beams, walls, and floors.

Once complete the ground floor will include a fully glazed library/office overlooking a tiered landscaped garden whose dining areas and sequence of raised beds will create a lush view from the rear facing windows. Lighting throughout the house and garden will be provided by PS lab who are developing bespoke fittings to maximise the impact of both the garden and the client’s extensive art collection.

The client’s brief – to create a family home with a textured and meticulously designed interior – has been developed in collaboration with Charles van Canneyt who previously worked in the studios of Axel Vervoordt and Vincent Van Duysen. Great care is being taken with the materiality throughout the house, making use of textured lime paint and clay plaster, wooden ceilings with exposed wooden beams, bespoke joinery created from reclaimed and charred timber, and floors from Belgian and Austrian quarries.

A full size basement was created below the original building to house staff and utility rooms as well as a gym and an onsen featuring a sunken slate jacuzzi with ice bath, steam room, and meditation/ yoga spaces.
